The most important thing you leave behind won't be in your will.

It will be your voice, your face, the way you tell a story. We capture it on video, properly, while there is still time to.

The lie we all tell

“There is time.” There is not always time.

Almost nobody records their story, because tomorrow always feels safe. Two objects taught the founder of this studio that it is not.

A cassette

Steve's father was given a week to live. He found a cassette recorder and spoke to the son who would grow up without him. Thirteen minutes and twenty seconds. It is the most precious thing the family owns, and it is nowhere near enough.

His mother died with no warning at all. No diagnosis, no last week, no recording of any kind. One photo, half looking at the camera. That is the entire archive of her.

One says the last week is not enough. The other says you may not get a last week. Do not assume you will make it to tomorrow.

Why video

Anyone can write it down. We help you say it out loud.

There is a whole industry telling you to write your story in a book. A book gives your family your words. Video gives them you: your face, your hands, the pause before you find the right word.

The coughs, the laughs, the tears stay in. Dave's craft is to catch the real moments and make them beautiful, never to polish the person out.

Real, unedited, human. In a world filling up with AI fakes, a true recording of a real person only becomes more precious. We record your father. We do not simulate him.

What families say

There is usually not a dry eye in the room.

The moment a family presses play is the whole point. These are sample voices while our pilot films are underway.

We watched one back together and I heard my dad laugh, properly laugh, the way I had already started to forget. I will have that forever now.

Delivery is a ritual, not a download link. Every finished story arrives as a keepsake: archival media in a crafted box, a printed index, and a written plan for who receives what, and when.

How we compare

Weighing us up against the alternatives?

Good. Here is the honest version of how The Legacy Studio differs from the other ways people try to hold onto a life. Full comparisons are on the way.

Good questions

The things people ask before they book.

If yours is not here, just ask. A real person answers, not a form.

Ask us anything
I'm not comfortable on camera. Won't it feel awkward?
Almost everyone says that, and almost everyone forgets the camera within ten minutes. There is a real interviewer with you, we start with a cup of tea rather than a countdown, and the whole job is to make it feel like a conversation with an old friend. You do not perform. You just talk.
My life isn't that interesting. What would I even say?
You do not need an interesting life. You need to be you. Drawing the story out is our job, and we arrive with prompts, questions and a running order, so you are never staring at a blank page. The ordinary details are the ones your family will treasure most.
Isn't recording this a bit morbid?
It is the opposite. This is a celebration of a life, not a preparation for the end of one. Most of what we capture is laughter, love and the stories only you can tell, and plenty of it is for the happiest moments: a new baby, a milestone, a message for a wedding day.
What if I get emotional, or need to stop?
That is welcome, and completely normal. The pace belongs to you: stop any time, take a breath, start a sentence again. Those honest moments often become the most treasured part of the whole film.
What is the difference between DIY, DIY + Edit and Signature?
DIY: you record yourself with our guide and prompts. DIY + Edit: you film it on your phone, and we turn it into a beautiful finished film. Signature: we do the whole thing, interviewer and crew included. Start anywhere, and move up whenever you are ready.
How much does it cost, and how soon do we get the film?
Pricing runs from a self-serve DIY guide up to the full Signature session. Indicative figures are shown on this page and will be confirmed with you before anything is booked. Finished films are typically delivered within about a week of filming.
Who owns the footage, and how is it kept safe?
You do. Every recording is stored in two places, on archival media and in the cloud, with a written register of who receives what and when, and a named custodian for any messages meant for the future. It is the same security doctrine our founder wrote a book about.
Do you use AI to recreate voices or faces?
Never. Everything we deliver is a real, unedited recording of a real person. No synthetic voices, no chatbots, no guessing what someone would have said. We record your dad. We do not simulate him.
Before tomorrow

Whose voice could you not afford to lose?

Do it yourself, do it with us, or let us do all of it. Just do not wait for tomorrow.
